Default Frontier Man

I tried my hand at carving a mask style Frontier Man. He's carved in basswood with a variety of brown washes of acrylics, oil, sealer and wax. He is approx 12 inches in height and the back is hollowed out to decrease the weight. The bandanna around his neck was the tricky part as it became quite fragile as I thinned out the wood. If my customer likes him - he may be a birthday gift.

Hi Patrick, I get to be the first to comment on your 'Frontier Man.' I really like him the first thing that caught my eye was 'his eyes.' All the facial elements are carved really nice and the hair feather and neckerchief again carved really well. I think besides your current 'Avatar' this is my favorite of your carvings. Excellent Work super facial expression--love the eyes!

If the customer dont like him,he always could go back to trapping in the back country! For hes a rough and tough frontier man! You can see it in his eyes!

Nice work Patrick. I like em.

What can I say another fantastic carving love your attention to detail. Not only that sir but this one is really small for you. You know I am a fan doesnt matter what you do you seem to get better if thats possible with each carving. But then thats what its all about but how do you define perfection to me your carvings border that already.
FANTASTIC

I see that carvers are on this site at all hours! Well, thanks everyone. I thought I over did it with this fella's hair a bit as it's pretty full. I see from my pics that I would have brightened up the feather a bit more to make it stand out from the browns I used. The feather was an afterthought as I wanted something to breakup the look of the "large" hair I gave him.

..........WOW!........ Now that's one great carving. It's no good for me to try and add to any of the adjectives that have already been used to describe your "Frontier Man".........I'll just second what everyone else has said

Now that to me, is what wood carvers would call a perfect blend of subject matter, medium, carving technique, execution, and finish. Yep! I like it.
