Default free wood

Hey all, just back from the big hunt, and checking in. I didn't get a deer but found something better. Found a guy who owns a sawmill and he GAVE me a truck load of basswood. He said it 'ain't worth nuthin'. All good looking northern WI basswood too. Sometimes you never know when lady luck is with you. Now all I need to do is get back to carving. Working on santas for the wife and daughters, should keep me busy for a while. have fun carve. oldbearx2

Understand the Carving Gods being nice. That is what I thought when I came accross all of the Plains Cottonwood bark here in SEK. Just brought back anothe pickup load. Maybe one more load for the winter. Hard to look a gift horse in the face for sure.

Congratulations on your find! One man's junk wood is another's carving project.

The only thing that could of made that hunt any better would have been a nice buck. Nothing wrong with the carving material though!

sounds like it's been a good deer season for 'found wood'. Only buck I'll see is a 'buck saw'! great find on the basswood.

Well I didn't get the thirty point buck either but did collect a few does for the freezer.

I have to admit I might not have been doing all that much hunting for deer. Kept seeing to many curly sticks 8) I carried out a dozen the last two days I hunted. I doubt I go to the woods any more this winter without my folding saw. Some I can carve now and some will have to cure. I wonder what kinds of snakes are hiding under the bark Whittler
