| | Free Basswood log update. Hi Everyone
After talking with the USPS and UPS it doesn't look like there is any value in having these shipped. From what I have learned the logs can not be shipped wrapped in paper. They would need to be boxed, and with the cost of the box and shipping (even for free the logs are not worth the cost). If anyone has ideas for low cost shipping let me know. Or if you are ever in the area feel free to contact me and stop by and take a few with you.

| | Re: Free Basswood log update. If you have access to wooden freight pallets, about any freight company such as Roadway, Yellow Freight, etc., will pick up and deliver to destination, usually at much cheaper prices than UPS, FEDEX GROUND. The wood will have to be fastened to the pallet or in a box on a pallet. They cannot be shipped loose.

| | Re: Free Basswood log update. I did some walking stick blank swapping and one person sent me a stick with just a wire and a tag on it and the post office delivered it! wonder if you could do that? |

| | Re: Free Basswood log update. Maybe what I will do is mill the next load off Basswood into large blocks and slabs. I'll also look into kiln drying costs. The shipping of green logs may still be a little costy shipping via frieght unless it was a good number of logs. If I mill and ship Basswood dry the weight and package size will be less and hopefully cheaper. I think I could sell the wood at a fair cost as well. This might be worth looking into

| | Re: Free Basswood log update. I have shipped items Via Greyhound bus lines (motorcycle frame). Put it in a black heavy duty trash bag. Balto to Tennessee was $18. You have to drop the item off at the bus station and the person recieving it has to be at the station when the bus arrives at the destination. Guess they have to fill as many seats as they can rather it is a person or not. A little inconvienent but they will transport things that I couldn't ship or was too expensive for ups but didn't warrent a trucking company.

| | Re: Free Basswood log update. I'll be coming up north in a few weeks and will probably go to Keyes Lake to visit family. If you have any logs left, I'd be happy to haul a few back to Missouri. I'd even be willing to swap you a few black walnut boards I've had laying around for a few years (on my stock shelf in the shop). If you have a huge log, I'd like to do a cigar store Indian

Sounds good, I'm always interested in Walnut. I just got a Maple log in 24" dia x 52" long. What size log are you looking for? I'll notify the tree service. THis could be Maple, Elm, Ash or ?

| | Re: Free Basswood log update. I had to make a change of plans, my company canceled my vacation, seems I'm needed elsewhere for the month of July. With back surgery on August 11th, I won't be going North until next year sometime.
