My daughter , son and I picked up 40 golfballs today . We had gone fishing but no luck The local golf course ist hole runs parallel to the hiway so we stopped and walked the the ditch on the oposite side of the course . I am going to try carving them this winter and see how it goes.

Smitty, your in for a treat. they are so fun to carve. no grain, but beware, when you cut into one. and pull the knife out. you will lose the line. so fun really. just cut the jacket, off, and try your hand at it. I just love them. Evie

Sounds like a great find. I usually have to get mine at garage sales. They are a lot of fun to carve. Someone on this site takes half the cover and molds it into different shape hats. Looks real nice but I haven't tried it myself

Do all golf balls these days have wood centers? If not, how do you tell the difference?

A few years back I was at a wood carving show, and a fellow there was a golf ball carver. He had a tool for cutting thru the outer shell of a golf ball. The jaws of this tool are in the round shape of the ball and, of course, are sharp. I wonder who has these for sale?? I'd like to try carving a golf ball, some time. |

I have not seen the tool you are talking about, I use a dremel with a grinding wheel to score the ball. I am the one that molds the hats for the carved golf balls and they add alot to the finished piece. You should try carving the golf balls, and those 40 golf balls you found will all be carved in no time. golf ball carving
