| | Forest Knot This is a hardwood knot I found and let dry out for a while. Not sure of the wood, but it is 19" tall, 27" wide at the base, and 2.5" thick. (I'm having a little trouble posting pictures in the gallery and having them come up. Could use some help)

| | Re: Forest Knot Ahhhhhh! I recognize the "towel on the couch" photography technique! The carving looks good. Really ingenious! What did you use for a finish? That's also quite a chunk of wood. Whew! Where do you display it? The last time that I carved something that large my wife threatened to move me outside. The carving is still unfinished. I'm waiting until summer when its warmer....Ha! Ha! |

| | Re: Forest Knot He's got a unique look there woodtrapper. Reminds me of a hobo with the dark beard. Once the weather warms up and the snow is gone, I'll have to get out and find me some knotted wood. I've seen a number of these types of carvings with the hat already mounted on the head. I'd like to try drift wood as well. Found wood has a lot of character I find.

Thanks for sharing!

| | Re: Forest Knot You are all to kind.I was a little hesitant about posting this one.I try to give the knot sort of a whimsical or naive look.It is tough to get a full nose because of the flaking. They are a challenge but fun actually.I would like to see more of knot carving because a knot already has such character you just have to add an expression.I used a spray on clear coat by rustoleum as an experiment.I have run out of room to display in the house so I will be selling some carvings this spring.I have more knots that I carved before I joined WCI so I will post the ones I have kept on the wall. Thanks for your comments. |

| | Re: Forest Knot The Hemlock knots I got from you sure was tough trying to carve, every place on the knots was one big flakey area,I couldnt carve them too deep fearing any min they would bust off another area I was carving on. You carve them alot deeper and get out the facial features so well in your carvings! Pls post some of your other knot carvings Ive seen! They are so neat!!! | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
