Default Foredom TX

Does anyone own the new Foredom TX flex shaft? I am currently in the market for a flex shaft and I had the chance to use the old foredom that a friend of mine has and I really liked it. Now I see that they came out with a new one that is supposed to have more torque but it also comes with a higher price than what I can get the 5420 set for. Any comments or suggestions? Do I really need the higher torque? I will be doing birds and other things so I am really not sure if it is needed.

I use the every day, run of the mill, Foredom and love it. Can't see how more torque would help, the one I have eats up the wood just fine. Takes getting use to but is a joy to use, once you get to know your burrs and what they will do.

Try to find someone with one and give it a try before you 'invest'...that's what I did. Best five minutes I've ever spent. Wife took me out a bit later and bought me the whole shootin' match, Foredom, burrs galore and a magazine to get started.

Good luck,

Bob

Hi, I also use the old Fordom, and find it has lots of power for carving. The newer high torque models are more powerful, but there also less flexible. I hear about people buying them, and going back to the lighter models for the flexiblility. The foredom I have , is about 15 yrs old, its used almost every week day, and more times than I can count, it got so hot you couldn't put your hand on it. Never fails, has the same brushes that came with it. It has had the flex cable replaced a number of times, but that is more abuse than anything. If it quit, I would buy another just like it. Hope this helps

I have a Wecheer flex shaft. It is very flexible, uses all of the Foredom accessories, costs about 1/2 of the Foredom price. It has a 1/4 hp motor the same as the new Foredom. One nice thing about the Wecheer is that the shaft does not need to be greased. Greasing a flexshaft is messy.
It performs well, is quiet, and the foot control is very well built. I am very pleased with it!

I have a 10 year + old Dremel and a good old Harbor Freight flexshaft http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=40432

I gave $49 for the Harbor Freight flexshaft in the store, in the catalog they want $69. It's got plenty of power, uses the Foredom burrs and I haven't been able to bog it down yet! As far as I can tell 15,000 RPMs is plenty for anything I've worked on so far!
