Default Foredom Questions

I'm thinking about getting a foredom with a recipicating hand piece.
I have been carving about 18 years with hand tools.I just got a Proxxon power recipicating carver that I like except it is a little bulky and not as fast as foredoom like the foredom might be. I have never used a foredom.
How loud is it compared to other power tools? Would it be faster at wood removal than the proxxon? I'm staying away from rotary cutters because of the dust problem. I'm going to power mainly to rough out faster then finish up with hand tools. Your opinions will be appreciated.

I can answer about the noise..... It is not nearly as loud as a vacuum cleaner. However, I do recomend ear protection. (I use ear protection when I vacuum too) I use two large flex shaft units and two small ones. Noise is like a high pitched whine crossed with a buzzing. Not familiar with what a reciprocating attachment sounds like but someone on here will fill you in on that.

Thank you for your reply Susieq. I would have replied sooner, but I have been busy.Today I retired, so hopefuly I have more time for the fun stuff in the future. Sounds like I can live with the noise. I'm a believer in ear plugs also.
