Default Font Layout Software

Does anyone know of software that can help size and layout font?

I had my first experience chip carving lettering. The technique I used was to copy individual letters out of a Wayne Barton chip-carving book onto tracing paper, arrange the letters (on top of a sheet of paper) until the spacing seemed good, tape them down, and the transfer the text to the wood surface with graphite paper.

Some software could make this layout process much easier by doing the sizing and layout work on the computer. Also, tried using Microsoft word but capability/flexibility is very limited.

I use Microsoft Excel for my layouts. It has way more fonts than I'll ever need and the font size and spacing flexiblity lets me do everything I need to do. Mike

Although it may be out of the realm of possibility, pricewise, plus a steep learning curve, Adobe Illustrator or Adobe InDesign are the ultimate in typesetting software. I use them each day in my primary employment. I could not be without them.

If you would like me to typeset something for you so you can see what it can do, or even if you just need something done, please feel free to PM me. I am on here numerous times during the day. It would only take me a minute or two to do it. I would be glad to help.

There are 14 computers in my work area, a mix of Mac's and IBM Compatibles. Every one of them is equipped with all the software.
