The Florida Woodcarver's Roundup is just around the corner. I went last year and had a great time. Took Chris Howell's "Carving Facial Features" class both days I was there. Good choice for me. It's posted in the WCI calendar page and I'll post the info here, along with some pics from last year's roundup. Took Chris Howell's "Carving Facial Features" class (second pic, guy in the cowboy hat is Chris) both days I was there. Good choice for me. Mar 25-29: FLORIDA.Hillsborough River Stater Park, 15402 N US Highway 301, near Tampa Phone: 941-697-2002 Admission: $5/day The last pic of the guy in red is Ivan Whillock from Carving Magazine Last edited by davidinsarasota; 02-17-2009 at 07:32 PM. |

Hey Dave, do you have to pre register or can you just show up and take a class. I missed last year but plan on going this year. Dave |

Hey Dave, I was hoping you would be interested in this. I think how it goes is they want you to preregister to give them an idea of how many students per instructor, but you pay the nominal entry fee when you show up. Each instructor also charges a fee, and for materials. I brought my own roughed out head because I like to work big (not sure I like how that sounds) instead of working with the bust roughouts the instructor was selling. The whole deal cost me like $35 for three days. I also camped at Hillsborough River State Park two nights, which was nice. I built a fire and carved at the campsite picnic table. I could have walked to the round up site, but I brought a lot of carving gear so I drove the half mile. Here's some pics I shot of the river that day. I think we should sneak down at night and carve a woodspirit on that Cypress in the last pic. |

Thank you for the info. Dave. I took a look at their website last night, there are several classes I would love to take. I like the idea of bringing your own wood to carve, it could get expensive. I will try to post a link so sthers can take a look. Dave |
