Here is a newbie question. What is the defining difference between a Flat Plane Carving and a Caricature Carving? Some of the characters that are carved in "Flat Plane" in my ignorance appear to be a caricature. Need help here. Thanks Al

Flat plane is a type of caricature carving Grayhorn and depicts the manner in which the cuts are made. The cuts are flat bolt cuts versus multiple rounded off cuts. But Flat plane is caricature carving, just another way to do it. Corey

Thanks Corey, So in fact what we call a caricature might be a "more finished" piece of carving, or rather have a more finished look than a flat-plane carving. Al

I should say it is a style of caricature carving that is pretty easily recognizable. I don't know what you call others, other than traditional. Corey

Thank You Robert, I just googled and as I pay attention I can see the flat knife strokes that make it a certain style. Thank you and Corey for making this clear. Al
