Default first woodspirit "ohhhaaaah"

After finding a woodcarver nearby here in michigan, same town almost same road even <snowcarver>, we were able to get together and do some carving. This is done on a piece of cottonwood bark from my backyard. I did carve the whole project myself, with his assist and advice of course, which sure makes a big difference over just sitting down with a book. Just a knife and a few chisels, and a good 5 hrs. It's about 3 wide and 13 tall. Still needs a bit of sanding and a coat of finish, but I'm waiting for the back of the bark to dry up more before finishing, it was a bit damp from being on the dead tree. I'm pretty darn happy with it though. He looks like he's ooohing and aaahing at something. Thanx for looking and thanx to Mark for inviting me over to play. Look forward to doing it again some time.

Thats sure a nice carving for your 1st one! I think once you apply a finish the wood grains will pop out and then your 1st carving will look even more nicer! You did a nice job, Jeff!

I agree really great for your first one. Also agree that once you put a coat of finish on it all the detail will pop out at you. Bark is a great medium to carve as it doesnt hold a lot of grain again nice carving.

You have to give yourself a lot of credit for that being your first woodspirit. I get a laugh when I think about my first attempt. Well done.

MA, burning and carving is not the same as playing with matches and knives.

That is a good one to be a "first" and much better than my first attempt.

Thank's for sharing it with us!
