| | First carving show I went to my first wood carving show today and was really impressed. I was blown away by the bird carvings. I was able to see other's work and to find out how they did things.
I met several of the exhibitors and was able to make connections on ordering things like aspen sticks to make walking sticks, roughouts from Rossiter Ruff-Outs, how-to videos on wood carving, etc.

| | Re: First carving show Yes it was a good show Greg. Sorry we didn't meet up this time. Had a great time and meeting with some great carvers and old friends. Trudy Rossetter is an amazing woman and emjoyed talking with her again plus getting some bark from her. We have cottonwood here in SEJ and is the Plains variety. She had some Plains and Back cottonwood. Four pieces less than she did have. The little bride is going to try her hand at on piece. Danny Reb from Sherman Tx was there and I explained my error in posting his line measure and he was gracious about it. Nice fellow and bought a Denny 1' knife from him. Haven't uesd it yet but plan on putting it to good use. Still like my Helvies. Talked to the guy from Mountain Woodcarvers out of Estes Park, Co. Plus all those great foks from Ks,Ok , Missouri, and Texas who diplayed there carveings and shared there experiences. A Russ Hewitt of Springfield Mo has developed a techmique called Gouge Chip Carving and was interesting watching him demostrate his technique. All of the above are lovely and sharing people.
Thank you Flo fro putting on a great show.
Maybe the next time Greg. Looking forward to meeting you and maybe the next time I am in Tulsa we can meet at WoodCraft. Droped a few bucks there also. |

| | Re: First carving show Kenny,
I am sorry also that we did not meet. I spent quite a bit of time talking to Trudy Rossiter and bought a couple of books, videos and rough-outs from Trudy. I did not know that she had cottonwood bark or I would have purchased some of it from her.
Jerry and I bought all of the aspen sticks that Mountain Woodcarvers had. Jerry is going to do a class at Woodcraft on carving hiking sticks in August.
I did pick up info that there was going to be a wood carving show in OKC later this year and I will attend it also.
Let me know the next time that you are going to Woodcraft and I will meet you there.
Greg

| | Re: First carving show Greg, The OKC show is OCT 23rd and 24th at the OKCity Fairgrounds Centennial Building, Trudy Rossestter will be there also as well as the Omaha Ne OCT 15 through 17 and the Topeka Ks Nov20th and 21st. Might check her out in OCt to see if she has any more bark. She had some pine knots also but decided not to pick any up. Aspen carve good and is a little harder than Basswood but lend to good detial, Have a couple of them carved and gave out to EAGLE SCOUTS.
I ask the gentlemen( I believe Ernie)at WOODCRAFT if Jerry or you had been in Saturday, But he said he had not seen you guys. Anyway, It was a nice show and hope it gets back to the bigger size it use to be. Came close to not going this year because of how small it was last year nad the lack of carvers. |
