Default First attempts

Well as you can see I'm new to this board and carving. As I said in my Hello post my great grandfather was the Wood Carver for Wurlitzer Organ compamy in the early 1900's. These are my first attempts to see if the genetic material transferred to my generation.

The first thing I carved was a dolphin but (I'm not kidding here) the dog ate it.
The 2 relief carvings were the next things I did, then the dragon and lastly the wood sprit. I just can't seem to figure out how to get hair to look right.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

I would have to say that you have some of grandpa`s talent. Looks real good for just starting out.Looks good for not just starting. You keep going and you will pick things up every time you carve. Plus the people here will get you through things and teach you along the way. good start and keep the chips flying. Vince

I think?? No I know your grandfather would be very proud of you! I like your relief carvings the best but you did a great job also on the dragon. Looking forward to seeing more on your wood spirits. Forrest
