Default First attempt at a mountain man.

You will have to bear with me , as sometimes my imagination is like this . I get going along and things seem to be going ok and then I flat out ruin a project . Like this one, once I got to the hat , I had no idea what to do. But I will do better next time. The carving is 7" x 3.5" and I used a light oak min wax stain and polyurethane. It seemed to get really dark so I didn't bother with the other two coats. Instead I used a clear shoe polish. I like that it didn't get really dark. Thanks for looking.

He turned out fine Wayne. As for the hat, it depends on what you were going for....so its hard to say if there is anything wrong with it. Nice job on the facial features - he has that backwoods look. Well done.

That looks to be a very nice carving on a very nice piece of bark. I like the shoe polish finish also.

I do not see anything wrong with the hat, and I think he looks great. .Always remember that mistakes are great lessons for next time, as you are major learning
