Default Fingernail Gouge

Hello, I got the Fingernail/Side Grinding Jig for woodturning and made the fingernail shape on my gouge. But now it catches very easily and breaks the green wood, not to mention making my heart falling out. I rounded off the end as much as I could so it wouldn't be too pointed but this didn't help. My other spindle gouges work just fine. Whats wrong here? Is the wood to soft for this type of gouge?

Sorry.......you seem to have gotten off on the wrong station.....wood carving is our specialty, and I believe you are looking for help with wood turning.

There may be a closet turner or two here that may be able to help, but you might be better served if you check out a wood turners message board. Check out www.turnwood.net/ or google for more results.

http://www.sawmillcreek.org/index.php has a great turning forum.
For the record a fingernail grind is usually used for a bowl gouge not a spindle gouges.
