I am carving a motorcycle and rider for a biker friend of mine. It has been the most difficult project I have ever undertaken. The most interesting thing that has happened is that there are numerous very small pieces all of which are glued together. The process of doing all the small pieces , all going in different directions with respect to the grain, has taught me a new appreciation for carving with the grain. It has been very worthwhile to learn as much as I have. It seems my tools are sharper and my work will be better as a result of the learning I have done on this project. Try carving a bunch of small pieces, all out of the same piece of wood and see what you learn from it. Maybe you will have a similar experience. |
