Default The Fiddler

Last year I carved a olde fiddler,Uncle Paul, which was carved in a larger new oak cutting board. Seeing I dont have him any more,I thought Id carve another fiddler, course I keep carving the same one.LOL

Cleaning some of my found wood,I liked this old board,it was full or wormy holes, chews from other insects and burrs & tunnels plus some holes that went through this old board. It was totally black but after sanding I started to see some beautifull grains in this old board appear.

This old board is wormy Golden Pecan. It was harder in some places and softer in others. Looking at it,I knew what ever I carved in it,had to fit both sides of the larger hole at the bottem, thus the fiddlers feet would fit there just right.

The board is 1 1/2 X 9 1/2 X 12 1/2 inches and the fiddler him self is relief carved at 6 X 10 1/2 inches. The strings on his fiddle are made of thread,I was in a hurry like Im all the time,I cut and glued the strings on but when the white thread and glue hit the black base it colored some of the stings black,so I just finished painting them this morning. I can paint 3 of the white strings but not the 4th one,I learned this on my Uncle Paul fiddler.

I hope you have learned about how I enjoy creating & carving something from old found wood. Your comments or thoughts are always welcome.

Thanks,Forrest

I always enjoy your work TN, and this one is no different, a great story to go with a carving that I would have no trouble looking at every day. And I love that you rescue those ol' lost pieces of wood and give them a fresh new life as well as bringing enjoyment to those who see the finished work.....Thanks for sharing...
Regards
John

Hey there Forrest, you just don't fiddle around and that's for sure. Very life like job on an old board, great to see new life in something that was probably never gonna be used again.
