Default Few carvings

Hello guys.

Ive been carving for about a month now and would like some input on two carvings.

The first one is a heart necklace I made out of black walnut? used some gold wire for the loop and watch bearings for the stones. Then some wax for the finish.

The second one is a face need alot of work on eyes and how would one make the hair pop out instead of looking like going into the face?

Thank you for your time.

For you hair, you need a deeper stop cut beside the head to separate the hair from the face. That's not bad at all for such an early attempt.

The heart pendant is very nice. Well done. The wood spirit is a very good early attempt. Faces are difficult (I still have problems) and all you need is practice. Like Mitchell said, deepen the stop cut at the edge of the hair to separate it from the face. Great job all around, though.

I really like the blk walnut heart and your woodspirit will be ok with some more work on him. You are doing really good so far!

I think you are off to a great start, the heart is awesome! Faces are difficult, just keep practicing.

I really like the pendant. Here's a tip on the face--your eyes should be looking straight ahead. When looking from the side you should not see the inside corner, it should be just as deep as the outside corner. Otherwise a great face.
