Default female spirits, anyone?

We all carve woodspirits, old, bearded, wise and male. Does anyone carve female spirits? If so, I'd like to see them

Here are a couple that I have carved one in 2003 and the other just a few weeks ago. Really not what you would probably call female spirits but that is what I call them. The first was in a willow and the second was in a maple.

Been gathering pictures and resources, too. I have the same goal, but it will be some time before I get caught up on some "promised" carvings and start carving for myself.

I have a "snip-it" I saved from someone (maybe Maura?) that explains what a female wood spirit actually is (they DO exist!). If you would like me to find it let me know. I'd really like to see some female spirits, too!

Linda ...still a beginner

I've been doing some female faces but I'm not sure if I would categorize them under female wood spirits. I would love to see a reference photo or two as I am trying to get mine to look more "tree like". Perhaps I should start putting some leaves around the face. My female attempts are somewheres in the gallery if you feel inclined to have a look. I will say this...female's take me a lot longer than males ws to carve.

Who is to say what a female wood spirit should look like. Carve it and if you are satisfied in the way it looks, then so be it. If not, carve another till you are satisfied. If you want leaves around the face, then put it there, if not, don't. Long hair short hair, It is your imagination that comes up with what you want. You can gather all the pictures you want but does that dictate what one looks like Nah!References, maybe. Take a picture of you wife, sister, Mother or if you are a female carver, take one of yourself, No better references than that.
To charicartize what one should look like, Nah, it is in the imagination.

JMHO!

Here's a picture of a green woman I did out of cottonwood bark. If you want to see more views of her, click on the link below, she's in the 'Bark Carvings' Albums. Good luck with yours, we'll look forward to seeing some pictures! Deborah
