Default Female in Red Oak

Here's a female face carving in a piece of old red oak I discovered in my pile of wood in the garage. The face is around 15 inches in length and the log is around 4 feet. All I added was oil to the grain which really darkened the face. The sheen is from the camera flash and the just sprayed on sealer.

Maybe it is just me, she appears to be Native American. None the less, you capture the essence of the female face.
Very nice piece Patrick.

Thanks Cliff, Merle and Kenny...and yes Kenny, I probaby could get away with saying I was carving an African Canadian/American female as the grain is quite dark. And, if you have noticed from my other females, I tend to make the lips quite full which could suggest a more ethnic origin.

The face is still showing some sheen but this picture gives you a better idea of the grain color without the flash. The neck is not as narrow as the photo suggest. Next course will be a photography course I think.

Nice! Great piece of wood you had to work with - slow growth. Love to see people carving Oak!
