Every once in awhile I come across a carving that stands out, and the fairy on the teapot is one of them. that is an exceptional piece of work. Can't wait to see it painted

I think I'd look at it unpainted for awhile. It's one that may not need it. Suggestion. Put it your computer and use a paint program, or photoshop, or the GIMP to mess with the colors, shading, etc. Maybe just a hint of color over the whole carving, like a very light stain. One of the bennies of a computer.

Deborah,
Again another fantastic carving I have to agree sometimes a carving jumps out and grabs you. Your fairy teapot did just that for me. Then I look at who carved it and no wonder. I think the fairy by herself is just a fairy and the teapot by itself is just a tea post but it takes a true artist to combine the two and make it a masterpiece. You never cease to amaze me with your carvings and your artistry.
Great job as usual
Colin

Deb, I keep coming back to look at that wonderful carving. I agree with most here again and it just reaches out to the eye, Pleasing and on top of the Teapot. WOWZER. Can't wait till you have her painted if'n it looks so great now, what will it look like after you finish her. Well , Guess we will have to wait. OUTSTANDING Deb. Like all of your carving but that one. Oh to be able to carve one. maybe someday!

Well after seeing your picture I rememebered you had a porable carving bench or table and If my old memory is not faulty, You have a piece of material that catches the chips or most of them. I guess I am a gorilla carver as my little bride calls me as the chips goes everywhere. But then, she wold call me that anyway. Actually, she is a troop for putting up with me for sure.

Thanks so much for all the great compliments, I'm really glad you like her! Next to Santas, Fairies are my favorite things...thought when I was little if I was quiet enough and sat still long enough when I was outside I could at least see one. Needless to say, that didn't work...probably because...I'm definitely not a set still, quiet kind of person!

Ed, great idea about using a computer program, I'd never have thought of that. I've been looking at downloading GIMP, I was told it's a great program, do you have it?

Yes Kenny, there is a cloth that hangs down, when I'm setting in my chair I flip it back over my body to catch more chips. That way when I stand up the chips are, for the most part, caught on the cloth and I just flip it back up over the carving table. Works really well!

Thanks again guys, for all the great compliments!! Callynne

Yess ma'am sure do have the GIMP. I can't vouch for the Windows version, but the Linux version runs flawlessly and has enough features to keep you confused for several years if you try learning them all. It's not really a difficult program to use, just so much functionality. A couple of places to get a look at it:

gimp.org
wingimp.org

best part is the price.

Thumbs up Re: I feel really stupid

Callynne, I have to agree....that is an exceptional piece. Oh, you should have sat quitely for a while longer, or looked a little closer! When I was around 8, I was sure I had spotted a for real fairy perched on a clump of daiseys out behind our house. Delicate green wings, about six inches long were slowly stretching while a very slender body, sat on a blossom. Really thought I had one there! Turned out to be a beautiful Luna Moth! I've seen many since then, but none of that size, or beauty. On second thought, I'll bet that was a fairy!
