| | February Monthly Challenge - Quilt Block At the request of some members, we will have a little fun challenge.
The first is a Quilt Block. Since there will not be a collection - just pictures - the block size will be flexible. Please refer to the attached link for examples. Wood Quilt Square Irish, please feel free to add as necessary.
I am also linking the original thread for reference. How about some monthly mini challenges?
There are no prizes (at least not yet) - it's just for fun. We'll select another subject for March about mid Feb - depending on the participation on this one.

| | Re: February Monthly Challenge - Quilt Block Hey Mitchell,
I would be happy to participate in a few, but my expertise lies in three dimensional carving. Perhaps next month a project I can carve a face on.

| | Re: February Monthly Challenge - Quilt Block Does it have to be relief? I went on the theory that it was a quilt block so I cut a piece 3 x 3 and have been working on a chip/pierced piece on that. |

| | Re: February Monthly Challenge - Quilt Block Hi Kitaye, I dont think it has to be relief just a project done on a wooden quilt block. I cant wait to see your chip/pierced block! I love looking at that type of carving.. it facinates me and its so beautiful!
I finally gave up on the first block.. its been retired to the wood pile. I'm trying something much simpler on this second block. |

| | Re: February Monthly Challenge - Quilt Block Well I guess I'll break the ice and put my carving up.
I carved this as a Valintine for my Honey. It's 5" x 5" with a 6" base, carved basswood and pine base, painting is acrylic with clear matte top coat. Skip

| | Re: February Monthly Challenge - Quilt Block Well, here is my first. It is 3" x 3" x 1/4" basswood. It was supposed to be all chipped but I went to deep on one and made it a piercing instead, so I matched it as best I could to balance the piece. The finish is Naturoil. The strong grain lines were not visible until after I oiled it. It looked terrible at first but I think it is growing on me.
This is actually the second one started. The first one died a painful and horrible death in the kindling bin. I have another, slightly more complicated one started as well. Hopefully, it will survive to see this thread. |
