Default favorite crack, holes, and knot filler

I have read tons of ways to fill holes, knots, cracks and such.... My favorite way is linseed oil and plug with sculpture brown wax on hard darker woods. But always will try anything that seems to do better then this...what do you use? Di

I'm working on a piece of basswood that has a small knot on the surface. It will be a wedding gift, so want to disguise the knot. I'll have to try one of these solutions to the problem. Thanks folks!!!
I was thinking of carving out the knot slightly and patching a thin piece of the basswd over it.??????????
