Default Fastest way to way to loose interest in carving!

This is something that many of you know. But I suspect it's something that one must learn the hard way. Earlier I posted up that I had 10 to 12 Noah's Arks, plus pairs of animals to make and carve. That'd be about 360 seperate animals to carve. I now have about 200 animals done. But now, I HATE it! I am to the point where I avoid the carving area where the animals are. I have to force myself to do the animals. I dream about those damn animals. I am getting sloppy (more so than usual). I am asking myself, "self, why did you do this"? I used to love to carve the pairs of animals. But this was only when I did a set of animals for an ark. Not for 10-12 arks. I am sure that the same thing would be true if one obligates themself to do 200 to 300 Santas, or anything else. Ol' Thomp warned me. I just didn't listen......

It happens to me, just by having to do the same thing twice...

So don't ask me to do it 10-12 times.

I'm another one that doesn't like to do anything more than once. whenever I do a second one (to try to improve it) it usually isn't as good as the first one. Sorry you got into that situation. Can you set them aside for awhile?

Don't be so hard on yourself Tom. Forty more days, and forty more nights, and maybe you will be done. Think how Noah must have felt.

I'm with Gilles, I have an extremely hard time doing something twice, let alone 10 or 12 times. I couldn't imagine committing to more than 200 of something.

You have my utmost respect to follow through with that kind of commitment.

Oh boy! How on earth could you commit to that???? My hat is off to you for achieving what you have. You are a better man than me by far. I just commented on another post where he said he was up to santa #2010!!!!!! Beats me how anyone can do that many. Joe.

Hey Tom Ellis, as I recall Noah was something like 600 years old. The one thought that sustains me is that these Noah's Arks will be sold by Christmas.
There is another thing that happens too. You learn the best step-by-step sequence to carve each specific animal. You can experiment and keep on improving the animals too. But you must guard against safety lapses. However, I am waiting for light at the end of the tunnel.

Tom, that sounds toooo much work! Can't even imagine doing 10 - 12 Arks and all those animals... Something like that would take me the rest of my life to do, if even then.... Good Luck my friend and I hope you finish your obligations quickly and easily...

Try looking at it this way, 10-12 times more people are going to be excited about having your ark then if you had just done 1 set.
Of course, that's easy to say, but I don't like doing even 1 carving if I feel like I "have" to do it. Good luck finishing up - stay safe

Eric
