I look thru the threads here pretty much daily, trying to learn something. I often do. I see carvers say things about their own carvings like "I made the nose too big" or too far to the right, or low; 'the eyes came out crooked' and any number of things like that. Now I suck at faces, the only reason some of my pieces did not hit the burn barrel is mom's teachings to care for those less fortunate than us. So after looking at the carvings, and reading the coments, I started looking at the faces in the REAL WORLD (I don't get out much, a lot of my research was online searches or movies on TV). I've seen faces in the out there as lopsided, crooked, and out of proportion as anything I've seen carved here, and then some. I've come to the conclusion that whatever your carving looks like, you could probably find a more out of whack face or figure on a live person. From now on, I meant to make it look like that. And I haven't evern gotten to the comic books yet. |

About time!!!! I so often want to impress on the good folks here that nothing has to be perfect because there is no such thing as perfect. Look about you and you will find glorious imperfections everywhere. Same with fish and bird sculptures. Not every animal is the perfect example of the species. Good on ya for seeing that.
