Cotton wood bark is sure fun to cut in to. And look what we found this time. This is the first time I have sanded the face. I happen to like it. The contrast between the uncut bark, the rough beard and the sanded face is pleasing to me. Like others have said, value your input. The last two pics are of an unfinished piece. Amazing how the eyes make the first piece pop. John K Karver |

Very nice work John. I do like the contrast like you say. Nice eye carving too. I bet the unfinished one will be my favorite when it's done. I really like that one. Corey

I love the way it is off center and looking to the left. And I agree the difference in texture adds to the whole piece.

I sand the cheeks and nose quite often now. I find it prepares certain woods well for taking the oil or acylic wash. The type of face and wood sometimes tells me to sand or not to sand. As well, the cuts show up more I find and you notice the dark satin wax in all the corners and nooks. Yours turned out very nicely John. Patrick |

John, Cottonwood bark, when carved like you just did, is fantastic looking. This one is very expressive, and the eyes do make it happen. Great job of carving. What size is the carving? Tom H |

I haven't posted in quite a while. Seeing these carvings I couldn't help but thank you for sharing. I love them both. I think I agree with Iowa Carver. My favorite may be the unfinished one. Please share it when done. God Bless, don
