Default eyes

After the two wedge cuts are made for the eyes, I always end up having difficulty making the eye mound. To accomplish this I have been going deeper with the eyes than I intend to. Any tips?

Sometimes you can take the browline back to compensate, occaisionally the entire forehead.
Probably the best advice I can give (short of showing you) is to draw the entire eyeball area then use a small deep gouge to remove the wood under those lines. That should give you a good mound; after smoothing it out, draw the eylids in and carve. Good Luck, Rick
