| | eye 'punches' I recieve Woodcraft's monthly catalog but I do not remember if it was there I saw these punches. They were oval in shape and different sizes. Maybe they were meant to be used as animal eyes. I cannot seem to find them anywhere. Has anyone seen them? It does not seem that long ago that I first saw them. But the years are flying now so it coould have been 3 or 4. Nail sets are good for the eyeball and for painting of those eyeballs. The oval sets would be a nice addition. Thanks in advance for the help. |

| | Re: eye 'punches' I went into our local el cheapo discount store and found punches, about 5 in a package and their were two packages of different sizes..the were 1.00 each package! Needless to say, they work fine in locating eyes or buttons etc, I usually just use them for buttons, push the punch into the wood and then carve the wood down using the indent as a stopcut. |

| | Re: eye 'punches' you can call me cheap but for a eye punch I had a leather punch with 6 different sizes that I use for buttons and what ever ,works for me.and it actually cuts the wood instead of compressing the wood.

| | Re: eye 'punches' I agree that they work fine for buttons and even for some design trim but I have not found them to be very useful for eyes. They just do not provide enough definition. Although it is more time consuming, and practice is surely required the end result is so much better when they are hand cut that I can not accept the results from the punches.

| | Re: eye 'punches' Like Greyhair, I prefer "freehand" carved eyes. I do have a set of the oval punches (sorry but I cannot remember where they were purchased) and I will sometimes use them to mark where I want the eyes placed. This helps me keep the eyes the same size. I also have a set of round punches that have about 1/3 ground off - I use them to mark pupils. The round, I use for buttons and such. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
