I am in the process of working on the design of a very deep relief carving. The completed project will be about 18" X 36" and about 4+" deep. I've worked with glue-ups before but am going to ask the question of anyone who has done anything like this before. Is there a rule of thumb as to how to lay out the grain pattern of the individual pieces? I will be using 9-2x6 basswood laid face to face and don't want to end up with grain issues during the carving process. The complete project will be done with hand chisels and very little power carving making grain an issue. |
