Default An experiment!!!

I finished this woodspirit at our meeting last Thursday night. I had been hauling this chunk of aspen around in the trunk of my car since last summer. I carved him a little off center and the flat back of the piece will allow for him to hang on a wall facing off to the right.

I thought he might look a little better if I painted in the eyes, then maybe if the beard was painted he'd look better the next thing you know I had painted the whole face. I kinda like the look.

The height of the piece is 10".

What do you think?

Scott

Scott...REAL NICE spirit! I like his face and the painting really sets it off in the dark wood background....in my humble opinion, you made a good choice. Bonnie

Hey Scott, ditto on the eyes like Colin said, they are really well done. I've saved you're larger picture to study them, you really have them down pat. I agree with the painting as well.

Scott,
Your wood spirit is great! Like Tucker I'm saving your pics too. I've looked at a lot of wood spirits, and as great as they are, I just couldn't get the mechanics of the carving in my head--the eyes, the nose, etc. I looked at yours and bam!! I can see it now. That's what I like about this forum--you hang around long enough, and magic happens! Thanks!
