..can become a moment of "what was I thinking"? I have worked for a long time finishing this cowboy and when it came time to paint I decided it would be fun to do like the black and white photographers and paint only a small part and stain the rest. So I painted the neckerchief and then decided the eyes and teeth needed painting so they would be more visible. The blank for the head was given to me as a challenge since the guy who cut it out had the grain running the wrong way and didn't want to deal with it. So I carved the face and forgot that the end grain would be darker than the rest. When I applied the stain to the face I soon kicked myself for not remembering that it would be darker. It has been fun though to stand him in the dark and see his eyes and smile glowing. My wife says that all cowboys either get dark tans or dirty faces. W e l c o m e: My Cowboys |

That's a great looking cowboy. I agree after a few months in the saddle they all look dirty. Great job on that hat as well. Looks real leathered. I also like the idea of only painting one or two things on him. I might have to borrow that idea on a few things i am trying to carve if you wouldn't mind. Thanks for sharing Steve |

Yeah, it happened to me once. I tried using wood bleach but the grain sucked in too much stain. Oh, great cowboy!
