...and here is one of our Don Mertz sharing his vast knowledge...

...the second is what I would call Lynn's gift. Lynn surprised a very grateful Don with this carving Saturday afternoon. Word has it that it was in return for an "Older Reliable"...great job on this Lynn...

...here is Lynn's impressive booth...

I appreciate you posting these photos. It is great seeing what a big carving show looks like. We don't have those very close to me.

...Mr. Sharpener himself, John Burke (behind him is some of his impressive chairs as well)

...and Dave and Michelle Stetson hard at work. Word has it that they are in negotiations on a new book where 100 of his busts will be included(right side of picture shows just a few)...

...I am proud to say that I own a Mickey Mouse O'Hara carving!!! (inside joke to my new friend Jim O'Harra, a finer gentlemen you will not meet!! Here is a peek at his table after a few of us cleaned him out!!

...and a good carving show cannot be run without a couple of heavies keeping everything in line (Pete LeClair, with friends Edsel and George), to give you an idea, picture the lobby with me, these 3 heavies and throw in a Kaisersatt as well!! Mobster (Sinatra would be proud)

...and here is Joe Schumacher holding court with Gene Fuller...

...and would Disneyworld be complete without Fantasyland, not if Floyd Rhadigan has his say. (Impressive display of rough-outs)

...this is a picture of a couple of one-armed paper hangers trying to figure out where all of their wood went. Let me say that Dale and Marge are top-notch and I would challenge anyone to say otherwise. These folks were at the races even before the show opened as wood had been reserved well in advance. After day one there wasn't much left and I think they were trying to figure out if they could rent the CCA Train to go get them some more...Idea
If you get to meet these folks you will not be disappointed. These are folks I would welcome at my place anytime!!

...next up is the generous Bruce Henn who I am proud to say has one of his carvings in my collection. Pictured in the background is Charlie Cooke who after working so hard to keep things running was hospitalized (heart issue). I speak for all as we wish him and his wife the best. (Note: In an ironic twist him and the missus were drawn for the $500 raffle prize)

...next is 'ol Don Burghoff and his collection...

...part of Bob Statlanders impressive carving display...

...and some very impressive Chip Carving by CarverRog. It was a pleasure to meet you sir and watch you work!

...here is Mr. Dennis Thornton (not looking halfWink bad Dennis) whom I spent some time with. Both him and his wife are some generous folks from up my way. Spent a large amount of time talking "Color Theory" and painting techniques with Susan (his wife) as she is an accomplished painter herself...

...and here is a recent carving he did for his daughter...simply outstanding...

...all in all it was a great trip and worthe every penny. It was also nice to see the large contingent of Message Board members. I heard there was a Myron Compton and Sam Carnes sighting but did not get a chance to meet these folks (I apologize).

The Dayton show has a lot to be proud of as it truly is impressive. Hope y'all like the pics...

...also lest I forget...this years whittling contest winner was Vic Hood, with Wayne Shinlever coming in second.
