Default Engler Block now a Car Museum?

Engler Block, long connected with Branson area woodcarvers, has now become a Car Museum according to a collector who just paid me a visit. Hopefully he wasn't talking about Peter Engler's shop. Also said that the Roy Rogers Museum has gone belly-up. All the contents are to be auctioned off including some Andy Anderson woodcarvings. Too bad.

Interesting, doesn't surprise me, though...the last time I was there, about 18 months ago, there was hardly any stuff that resembled carvings, carving tools, etc.

I remember the first time I was there, around 1993, and the whole place was woodcarving, people here and there carving everything you could think of!

That's sad...

I think most of the stuff will be auctioned off by High Noon Auctions and the large auction houses in NYC.

Yes it is sad. I remember the first time I went to Branson and saw Engler when he carved at Mountain Woodcarvers. They also had a shop in Gaitllanberg?, Tennessee. I even remember him coming to Tulsa once back in the mid-70's to demonstrate carving at a Scout-O-Rama.

My wife was down there in October this last year. That is right Engler block is no longer the Engler Block, Englers shop is located in another building I believe, sells all his stuff out of there and other carvers work as well.

Thumbs up Re: Engler Block now a Car Museum?

Pete Engler now has his shop at the Grand Village Shopping center in the middle of Branson .. Engler Block really went down hill after he relocated .. no longer the shop it was ..

Talk to a lot of people last year about the economy and things were tough even in Branson .. Hotels were suffering with older folks not coming as much and even several patrons working at Silver Dollar City said the crowds were'nt as big with the economy in this down turn

Places are hurting all over with this economy .. but were get better

I wondered if they were making a mistake when they moved the Roy Rogers Museum away from Apple Valley, CA. Now I know. My parents lived in Apple Valley and they would bump into Roy and Dale around town occasionally. They were very nice people.

I had heard it was now very expensive to go to Silver Dollar City. Something along the line of $75 per person per day. I don't know if thats right or not.

We were there this summer and I think it was about $45.00 per person, but if you go in the afternoon then you can come back the next day for free. Lots of good carvings at the carving shop.

I know it is about that same price to get into Dollywood in Pigeon Forge...probably in the $65 to $75 range. I think due to the economy everything is going up. We went for the woodcarving show in October and it had gone up quite a bit from the last time I was there. That is the best deal though....better to go in the afternoon after 3 and then you can go all day the next day. It's a shame about the shop...doesn't sound like it is a good time to be in business for a lot of people.
