Hi I just broke the tip of my new Knife ![]() well I guess I tried to pull out a large piece of wood with the tip what sould I do to fix it? Thanks Last edited by yaki; 06-19-2009 at 03:52 PM. |

I would reshape the tip on the knife, just be careful and not heat it up. I think I would just use a diamond hone. It doesn't look that bad and should reshape fairly easy. Just my 2 cents worth

Hello, You can grind the backbone, or top back down to the cutting edge, instead of trying to sharpen all the way back up to the tip of the break. Guess you will just have to carve shorter pieces now. ![]() Good luck, TOM |

As Tom Ellis says, grind off part of the back towards the tip - don't try to grind off the edge. I have a Flexcut detail knife that I've dropped on the concrete floor three times, each time losing about 1/8 inch of tip. I just ground the back down using a sanding drum - took five minutes or so...touched up the edge on the strop and ready to carve. No matter what type of grinding device you use, keep a container of water nearby. I would make a 3-4 second pass on the sanding drum and then dunk into the water to cool it off. If the tip turns blue, you've just lost all the temper in it. A good rule of thumb is grind three seconds, dunk three seconds, then repeat. Claude |
