Elmer, I made one for next to nothing, two computer fans, some scrap plywood, a piece of vaccum cleaner hose, 5 gallon bucket, some old sheet metal, and an old pair of panty hose. More then likely, you've got most of that stuff laying around the shop, shed, garage, or basement. (if you go cat fishin, check your tackle box for the panty hose )

Click on the link below for my photo album, there's a few pictures there. If you need more info just ask.

When did kids and grandkids stop being dust collectors? I thought that they were uniquely designed to attract dust. Give a hand broom, a floor broom a dust pan and $1.00 and they just suck up the dust. Wears them out, they get to get dirty, and my shop gets cleaned. Everyone is happy. If your shops gets dirty alot you are just not inviting your kids and grandkids over enough.

Elmer,
I got a one fan, table top Grizzly 10 years ago, thinking the $20 additional to get two fans was overrated. If I had to do it over again, I'd get one with two fans. Mine still pulls a lot of dust, but I still wear a mask, especially when in a workshop where several are stirring up dust. I carve once or twice a year in a power carving workshop, and everyone uses a dust collector--either table top or lap top, and you wouldn't believe how much dust is still sitrred up and in the air.

Grizzly does have a great 2-fan table top collector and that's what I'd get if I was starting over. A simple furnace filter that can be thumped into a trash can several times prolongs the use of it and effectiveness. The three plexiglas panels fold up to make a good compact travel unit.

I've seen numerous homemade ones that have been described, but alas! I'm not good at that kind of thing, and the Grizzly price is right.

I did an article on this a while back - Woodcarving, Beekeeping, and Country Life Dust Collection – Wood Carving Article

I built my own system out of an old squirrel-cage fan. Fan was $25.00 and the rest was scrap. Fits into a table. Picture is on the link (click to make bigger).

Thanks,
