Default dust collection

I am primarily a woodcarver. There is very little activity at the wood working site so I thought this site might be more productive. We all have wood dust that needs to be controlled. I am looking at buying a dust collector. I have looked at those made by Delta, Grizzly, Jet, and Woodtek. I am looking at 1 1/2 hp most likely. I think 1 hp is a little light and 2 hp may be a little more than I need. This will be hooked up to the saws as I use them and will not be a central device for a large shop with multiple machines running at once. The standardization of the vaccum capabilities is lacking so it is difficult to exactly compare them. The CFM depends upon an assortment of variables. The editor of Woodworker's Supply has the best idea with some standardization for acccurate comparison. He uses useful volume flow rate. In any event what are your experiences with these machines from these companies?

I use a Jet 1200 cfm and it has worked very well from day one. Jet is well known for great customer service if it is needed. Delta also has nice units and a good reputation. The Grizzly brand has come a long way in quality for a low price and get's great reviews on the woodworking forums. I have not heard to much about Woodtek so I can't really coment. I would also consider the decibel rating on these units before you buy if you are in a home enviorment. I think the best bang for the buck would be Jet or Grizzly.

Grizzly has the most for the bucks. Try the grizzly site
www.grizzly.com before you buy. Jet and Delta have nice ones also.
May try building one using a shope vac. Noise level may be to high with that.

I've got the Grizzly and am satisfied with it. Good volume, reasonable noise level and easy to use. Get the extra fine dust bag as an extra, though, it's worth the extra bucks. It's a little hard to install the first time, but picks up that really fine irritable dust!

It looks like Jet is quite comparable
