Default Driftwood Trouts

I'd picked up several peices of driftwood this spring in the Doe river that flows through out little town. Sat.I cleaned off what old leather bark there was on this one and sanded for hours on it.

Its 3 X 16 inches{the carving area}. Id studied and look and held this peice of old wood in several positions trying to figure out the best way to carve it. There was a knot on what is now the bottem of this carving which made the whole peice sit up on its on. This old wood was hard but had one softer spot on the 1st fish on the left, which I hated, soft spots in wood,is where I can get cut.

I carved it Sat and painted it Sunday afternoon. I wanted to keep all the wood as the roots under the water as they was with out painting them. I really dont like how shiney this came out,but people think and like it shiney which relates to water being wet..

One of our better fish carvers told me that fish under water are not as shiney till they are out of the water on my last trout fish,Id carved. Im sure he knows with the great fish carvings he does. But I will just make it shiney once again.

Hope you enjoy the new life this old drift became. Your thoughts or comments are more than welcome. Forrest

Shoot Yea Buckskin, you can carve anything,it dont always have to be a flat peice of wood or a block size. Im gald you liked this drift wood carving and learned that, thats why this board is so wonderfull. Thks again for your nice thoughts. Forrest

Another great carving and painting Forrest. You have a great imagination and it shows in your work. I've actually been doing more fishing than carving lately, the bluegills are bitin' around here.

Forrest,
you never cease to amaze me.... what a nice piece of work that is. Beautiful over all, the painting and the finish on the driftwood. What part of East Tenn are you in? We have friends building a house in the Cleveland area and go there several times a year to visit. I would love to get over to see you one of these days and see your work in person....
