Sorry to hear of your misfortune. Hope it heals up quickly and without problems. It can happen so easily. Hope you didn't get too much blood on the stick!

Good luck with the finger - I hope the tissue takes. We all get our nics and slices and hopefully learn from them. I have had some close calls as well so I can appreciate how something like this can happen.

*ouch* I am sorry to hear about that. And the thought that it happened while wearing a glove is scary. Hope it heals quickly.

Last Christmas, I was picking out carving supplies to add to my list. (Actually, the only things on my list!) Then it dawned on me that I was picking out the best knives, but mediocre glove, to try and save on money. When I realized how foolish this was, (these are my hands I was messing with!) I changed it to the best glove they had. It's saved my hands in more ways than I'd ever imagine and I shudder to think what would have happened if I had gotten the cheaper glove just to save a few extra dollars. And I did manage to even put a small tear in this one when I jabbed myself with the tip of the blade!

Stay safe,
Jillsy

Ya also need some sort of clamping device for that stick!!! That will keep your hands clear and let you put some muscle into the carving!

I got spoiled by Colin's Triton Power Jaws when i was up there visiting with him and carving...once those things are locked down, you can carve away! i'm developing my own, shop made version!

Very sorry to hear of your mishap! I wish you rapid and complete healing.

I have to throw a "THANK YOU" to club members in NoVa! Pete hollered at me one evening for not wearing my glove, then every one ganged up.

I always remember that and thank them when I forget! (and yep, I bought a good'n!) (I HOPE! hasn't been tested yet!)

Good luck!

Sorry to hear about your accident. I had an accident while using a large knife with a springy blade. I was cutting cheese and the knife slipped and cut into my left index finger. It cut to the bone. I had to go to the ER and later to the doctor. I had stitches and xrays. The main concern was the knife hitting the bone and causing an infection. I had the tetanus shot and a few months of not knowing how the finger would heal. It did heal but the feeling on the cut side is not there anymore. Half of the finger from the cut to the tip is sort of numb. I know this didn't happen while carving wood but I should have know better from my experiences while carving wood. Good luck, I hope you regain the feeling in your finger also.
