While I was cutting a base round off a Blackwood limb for my Platypus carving, I cut a few more for later use. So, I made up this base today(nearly finished) to go with something. I haven't quite figured out what the subject will be just yet but, it will have an aquatic theme obviously. Do many of you do similar things? Base 002.jpgBase 001.jpg

I have a few blanks sawn and drying in the garage (I go to our loal tree trimming drop-off site for branches to make bases from)..but have not/do not go further than that until a carving is ready for a base. Nothing wrong with doing it your way...the idea for a piece can start from any direction, and ertainly isn't limited to the first plan. Nice base BTW.

Those would be great for fish or otters or turtles... Good plan to make then ahead. I find a lot of time can be saved in the finishing stage making multiples.
