| | Re: does any body have any chess peice carving pat :P Grumpy, like I said, I wasn't going to sit down and carve, I just wanted to check out the tools. Had I been carving, the fingers would have been protected. The point is, accidents happen exactly when you don't expect them!

| | | Re: does any body have any chess peice carving pat Hey, Cap'n,
It seems to me an observant chess player would look at the opening position and make a mental note of which pieces represent which. That isn't to say you won't get any dirty looks if you try to use such a board at a chess club or tournament--I've heard they prefer the traditional Staunton design... come to think of it, grrib, why not consider that as your starting design?

| | Re: does any body have any chess peice carving pat Copuld you buy a cheap set of plastic pieces, carefully band saw them in half, and trace the shape onto a piece of paper? Use the other half of the set for reference and to take measurements from. Or not.

| | | Re: does any body have any chess peice carving pat even simpler then slicing them in half is taping a piece of paper to the wall and shinning a bright light on the original. adjust the distance of light and original to get the size shadow you want and trace the outline.

| | | Re: does any body have any chess peice carving pat Thanks Grump like all my best ideas they usually come from someone else. Here's another: In this thread some posts ago there was talk of carving gloves being to slick to hold the work. Take a hot glue gun and drizzle a cross-hatch pattern across the palm and fingers of the glove. Makes a world of difference.
Chips Ahoy!

| | | Re: does any body have any chess peice carving pat You can now buy those gloves with the rubber cross hatches on them. I got one myself. Of course Capt'n, none of them will work if you don't wear them. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
