| | Dockyard Micro tools I believe this question was asked before on the old board but I cant remember what was said. I have just purchased a set of Dockyard Micro gouges. When I went to use them I found they were not very sharp. For those of you that have them is this normal are they supposed to come sharp or do they require some honing?
Thanks in advance

| | Re: Dockyard Micro tools Well, they say that the tools come sharp. However, I purchased two different sets; the gouges, and the mixed set of gouges, v-tools, chisels, etc. The mixed set was not even close to sharp. The set of gouges were very professionaly sharpened (of course that set was bought from Little Shavers). From those experiences, I would say, unless the dealer sharpens the for you, you'd best have your stones handy when the mailman arrives. |

| | Re: Dockyard Micro tools Because I use Dockyard gouges so much and so hard, I've bought umpteen sets ..... they always need at least honing.... unless you get them from Rick. |

| | Re: Dockyard Micro tools Colin,
The dockyards are normally pretty sharp from the manufacturer; but they are not really honed and polished. Often they are dinged up from the manufacturing process and while the rest of the tool is sharp, that little ding prevents it form cutting.
The micro gouges are simple to resharpen; being a full-circle, they may be rotated on their axis to sharpen. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
