I guess I'm just a lazy sort of guy and sit 99% of the time while carving. It occurred to me that some folks might be just the opposite. What's your preference? Ron

I prefer to stand and I don't know why.I think it may be because how we were taught "manual arts" in primary and secondary schools using work benches. Time is taking its inevitable toll however and I am beginning to seek ways to carve while seated.

Usually depends on what I'm carving. In the round I'll sit. Relief carving I like to stand. Garon |

If I am loving life and hand carving I will have a premium hand rolled and a cold beer sitting. If I am destroying wood with chainsaws and grinders standing.

If I am using a mallet or both hands on the gouge, I stand. I was taught to use my whole body to drive the gouge, as it were. Again for small detail, I sit. Haven't YET been allowed to sit up in bed............ |

I sit at work all day - so when I carve at home - I stand at a bench.

I use a knife and palm tools, so there's no need for me to stand. Sometimes, I even lay down .
