Default How Do You Make Those Claws

I recently started a new project, as I was cutting out the shape I began to realize the claws will be a problem, so I left plenty of stock. The more I looked at it the more I new I had a problem and it wasn't going to go away. But Ford had a better idea.

Take some tooth picks and soak them in water, when they become water logged they will sink to the bottom of the glass, took a piece of scrap wood, put a deep cut with the shape of the claws, cut the tooth picks to size and press them into the jig, when they dry, pull them out, they seem to keep there shape.

Good tip, Scooter, I'll try that out on my next turtle carving.

Something I have used in the past is rose thorns. You can find these up to 1/2" long, and they already have the proper bend and understructure. But I like the toothpick idea.....far less likely to get "stuck" with that plan of attack.
