Colin, Clifford, I think both of your first tries are very good. Have you ever seen the early carving by Jeff Phares in back of his book, Carving the Human Face? He put it in to show mistakes he made, well, that was an inspiration to me. For his early carvings to evolve into what that man does now....awesome!!
My anyone wants to see my first one just click on the link below, it's in the album at the bottom of the list...Very First Carving...it's just carved on a piece of one by pine, but it was enough to get me completely hooked on carving!! Callynne

I got to see Pete LeClair's first two carvings at a carving show last month. I was happy to see that he started out doing stuff that I could have done.

Heres som links to the first fish decoys and fishing lures I carved.
I guess I also have Adult A.D.D. as most of these were started before I ever finnished one, the golden sucker on the first link was the first I ever finnished. those scales were all done by hand with a rifle file (what a tedous job that was).
Im not nearly as good as yop guys but Im learning. and still work 60+ hours a week so there isnt an overabundance of spare time to play. I do occasional get to make a few knives on the clock. so I guess thats a bonus.
any way any imput welcom Good or bad ya wont hurt my feelings at all

Tom those are really something else!! I have to show the hubby, maybe that's a type of carving he'd be interested in trying. I think it's something I'd like to try someday, we have some real fishermen in the family and that would be one awesome gift for them! What do you paint and seal them with?
Again, great pieces, thanks for sharing! Callynne

Tom,
Those are great carvings a little too small for me if I tried them I would probably cut my fingers off.
Hmm nice carving of the beagles so realistic LOL

OK since you are so intent on embarrassing people! :P on my picture trail under woodcarvings, I just posted my first and second carvings...they were already there buried, but I put them in again as the first two that come up, that way you don't have to dig! lol
