Default What do you do with your woodchips...

I have several bags of woodchips from carving. I don't want to burn them or put them outside to rot. I just wondered what they may be good for in using them for my carvings.

I burn them.....

or put them in the yard to blow into the neighbors yard

Not sure what you mean by using them for your carvings. I have LOTS more waste than any need to have chips in a carving. I HAVE used some chips as props on a couple of Santa carvings - making them appear as waste from what he was carving.

I'll list some "Brainstorm" ideas - just for fun:

Make stuffed toys - You could use the chips as stuffing of some sort, but they will eventually break down (and rather quickly at that).

Paint them white and use them as fake snow for Christmas decorating.

Use them as packaging cushioning - like styrofoam "peanuts"

Figure out a way to glue them together and make sculptures - a cross between paper mache and popcicle sticks.

Following Mitchell's lead

You can package them and sell them as mulch. (my personal choice)
Put them into paper bags , place them into a trash compactor and turn them into firplace logs.
You could grind them down ,mixed with glue for wood putty.
You could wrap them in celophane add peppermint and clove extract, invite your friends over and give them away as party favors ..

Tie them up with string and sell them for firestarters....
Split them and use them for toothpicks ...
Seal them up and use them for throw pillows or bean bags ..

purchase a wood stove and use them to cook with =)

Use them as leaves on a forest floor scene. Like this.

Store them in a barrel to use as firestarters in the winter. A handful on the newspaper sure gets the flames a jumping.

I keep any sawdust and chips for use to soak up oil drips in the garage or driveway. The rest I mix with coffegrounds and a small bit of grassclippings and throw them in a section of my yard. Skip the grassclippings if you fertilize your yard. I have nightcrawlers and redworms for fishing anytime I want.
