Default How do you carve the little decorative box drawers?

I've been wondering for a while how to carve the drawers in those little decorative boxes like the attached picture below. I tried searching around on the internet and looked for some books on amazon but couldn't really find any how-to guide or anything explaining how the cuts are done. The back isn't cut off and the cuts into the wood don't go all the way through, so how do you get the clean cut on the back of the drawer? Or do they cut the back of and just glue it back on?

Thanks!
-Will

Thank YouHi I think you answered your own question, they cut the back off and then glue it back on. There should be a number of books probably located under "band saw boxes" or just books on the band saw.

Band saw boxes are great, Donna Menke has a new book out on the process. Amazon should carry it, called "The Ultimate Band Saw Box Book" .

Basically, the front slab is sawn off, the back slab is sawn off, the center part is sawn into drawers, etc, and the front is sawn to match the drawers and the whole thing glued up carefully and reassembled to work.
