Hi folks, I know there was a post not long ago on this, but I just couldn't find it. Anyway.....I finally finished the Fine Tool Chest that I had been working on since last winter....got the design from Woodsmith magazine issue #151, and learned one thing....I better stick to carving and ship models, cause I'm no cabinetmaker. Here is the chest ....yes there is carved work on it.....and also my "work place", with the new chest set up and fits right in. Bob

Very nice tool chest Bob. What do you have (or plan to have) stored in it? |

I have converted the Glassed in Back porch into my carving area. All tools have their place but painting is done on kitchen table. However, I carry some tools where ever I go and usually carve something somewhere. If the little bride is going to try on clothsHead Bange then the knife and a small piece of wood comes out of my pocket and I carve.

Hey Bob, Good job on the tool chest! You also have a very nice work area. It's too clean. Do you really carve there? Talking

Hmmmmm ......... So Bob is no cabinet maker, huh? Can you imagine a chest made by a REAL cabinet maker? Bob - why don't you just give up, buy a nice chest and send that piece of junk to me? Incredible work ....VERY beautiful.

First, I'd like to say your tool cabinet is wonderful. I'm sure you'll find it very handy. I have a section of the basement where I carve. I have my new carving bench that I made from a section of bowling alley, a metal bench with drawer for tool storage, and seperate areas for sharpening and general around the house fix-its. I'm pretty particular about not letting my non-carving tinkering spill over into my carving area. I still want to get a cushioned mat to stand on. Bare concrete can be tiring. One of my co-workers ribbed me that after the carving bench was done I wouldn't use it; I'd only stare at it like a shrine to carving. He's somewhat right. I haven't used it as often as I hoped. Too many other projects and I'm just getting the lighting finished. Soon. Jim |

Ya....I suppose you're right Nancy. What did you say your address was? Today was clean up day, so yes it does look clean, and yes, I do carve there.Red Face Cleared away the mess so I can get back to work on the model of the Shannon, (that's it front and center on the desk) all re-organized and a place for everything. The chest is just big enough, each wide drawer has 20 compartments and every one is has a tool in it. Good planning eh! More like good luck. The top three small drawers are for files, sharpening stones and such. Don't know what I'll do when I buy more tools!!! Perhaps it's a good thing that it's full, it will help me control my buying. Thanks for the kind remarks folks, but I'm still not making any more tool chests!!! Bob

Bob, I'd almost be willing to bet you a half inch of $50 bills that full tool chest doesn't keep you from buying more tools. Don't you know they're addictive and you'll have to have a tool fix sooner or later. The tool chest is really neat. Have thought about trying to build something similar but after seeing yours think I'll just go back to Sears and find something in their tool dept. HAPPY NEW YEAR. KEEP YOUR TOOLS SHARP.Happy |
