Default Where do you call shop?

I know many of us have atleast a work area, while others may do with a corner in a living room or whatnot. My work area is in my garage on my L shaped work bench. My garage is heated and cooled, though theirs not much use for a heated garage in the south where I am.

Alot of you guys are talking of heading inside for the year...where do you call shop?

Mine is in the basement, heated in the winter and air conditioned in the summer.

I have two work benches, the main one is on the north wall and the one that I use for my patterns is on the east wall. Some times I'm accompained by my cat "Sweetie"......she likes to listen to the old rock music that's on the radio.

Mine is in the walk in side of our three car garage. It has air and heat, but rarely do I use the heater. Luckily it is well insulated.

I have a large carving desk, power carving station to the right with a detail burner. Directly behind me is my painting table. I have a roll around steel 3 shelf unit for works in progress. I also have a display area for visitors to view finished items. And of course a radio and an I pod for tunes

My shop is a very dinky board and batton 12x16 hut out back of the house. It is usually the exact same temperature on both sides of the door year round. I have a 42"h work bench down the 12' wall. 6' of it is for "dirty work" greasy, oily projects, the other half is for cleaner work. I have a stool but very rarely can I sit down to work so I just have a step bench I stand on if I need to get above my work.

Here's my shop. 24'X40' or thereabouts. To the left is the Out West Gallery and wagonbarn where we keep the Chuckwagon. The wagon used to be setup inside the gallery but the carvings pushed it into a room of it's own.

I have converted half of the garage to wood working central.

I have a 20' lenth of countertop against the wall and a 6' "L" coming off of it. The long length has a homemade disc sander/buffer made from a washing machine motor and a pillowblocked shaft.

Along with bench, I have an 'island' in the middle of my space that has (2) grinders, a 16" scroll saw and a table top drill press. My bench top lathe sits under the long length of countertop and is bolted to the table when needed.

I have a mini shop vac to pick up the chips and a bar stool of sorts recovered from the neighbor's "Heavy Refuse" at the curb. It has nary a scratch.

The thing I'm most proud of is that each piece of machinery was either bartered or picked up extremely cheap with a lot of searching thru yard sales, Craigslist, etc...

Winter is coming, and I'm in Michigan, so I'm keeping my eyes pealed for a cost considerate space heater.

Mine is the garage, I have a work bench that I made along the back wall. No heat needed but I do plan to add AC as it is west facing and gets the afternoon sun. Right now at 6 PM it is 90 degree in there.

I have an unfinished fraction of our finished basement (behind a closed door that has a small sticker on it warning: "CAUTION: Sharp Objects Inside") where my carving bench is set up opposite my general purpose shop-bench.

The actual floor space is roughly 8' X 10', which requires real creativity when it comes to storage and placement of gear, tools, machinery, wood, projects an the like...but is sure is cozy! :-)
