I 'm wondering what everyone uses to hang a carving on the wall? In the past I have put 2 screw eyes on the backside of the carving and then a piece of wire between the eyes. It works but doesn't look to good, which doesn't really matter because it's on my wall. But I have a small light weight carving I want to try to sell on ETSY and want something that looks better. I thought of just drilling an angled hole, but it's not even on the back so it probably wouldn't hang right. So I'm wondering if I drill 2 small holes, horizontally and epoxy a fish hook on the back in the holes if that would hold well? Or if there's a better way to do it let me know.

If you have pictures, that would help!

Hey Sharon, I have used a couple of methods for hanging my carvings. One was a simple D-ring like they use on the backs of picture frames. Another method is to screw in a cup hook which you can get in a vast array of sizes and finishes. Hope this helps. Haven't been around much lately because I am always working these days. Wow, look at the time, gotta fly....Joe.

You may want to try the 3M command products. They have on that has a velcro strip that is made for hanging picture frames. They would be a good option if you do not want to leave any holes in the wall and for a lightweight carving they should be plenty strong enough.

At your local Home Depot or Lowes, they sell small packs called something like "sawtooth hangers" in brass plate and steel colors for hanging pictures on the wall. These are installed with two small brads (supplied) on the back of the object. Very nice for relief carvings, as you don't need to know the exact center of gravity to hang it straight; close is good enough, as the owner can put a nail in the wall and then slide the carving from one notch to the next until it hangs straight. Our son uses the tabs from pop cans to hang his bark carvings. Small brad nail or small screw to hold it on.

Sharon, you can use a couple of wood screws in the back with framing wire between them. It doesn't stick out as far as the screw eyes do and it is just as stable as the mirror straps. I would recommend this over saw tooth hangers as the brads do not have any teeth, and can pull out over time if the piece is moved again and again. Christina |

Thanks everyone for all the responses! Now to decide what I will use. If I have time I will post a picture of what I end up using. Getting ready for Christmas and working takes up lots of time. Miss every one here! Thanks again!

I carve a small half-round slot in the back of my carvings - about 1/4 inch deep and 3/8" wide - positioned at the center (or center-of-gravity) so the carving can hang from one nail in the wall. This allows the carving to hang absolutely flat to the wall surface.

Hi Sharon, I do what you do with the angled hole in the back and works good for me and is neat. Smooth out the back and it might be better. Merle
