I was thinking about all the carvings that are produced each year; and wondering what happens to them. You would think we would be up to our armpits in basswood by now. I see some on ebay, and a bunch are stored in bins in my garage; but where are the rest? |

Well Rick, I guess there are a lot of them out there as gifts? We sure have given a lot away... Now, what they did with them is another question! : :-/ Question, where are all the basswood chips? The Gibbs

I give mine as Christmas gifts, to family and friends. I keep my unique carvings in a couple of cabinets and on shelves at home. I don't sell any now, and don't plan on proving to myself how little they're worth by selling them in the future.

When I first started I gave mine all away I dont think that there is anyone in the family who doesnt have one. Then friends wanted them so I gave a lot away to friends. Then the light went on and I started to sell them well that seems like a long time ago and now I sell the majority of the carvings. I still give a lot away to charity autions such as Big Brothers and the Women's Shelter. But really the big thing with me is not how much I get for the carvings but to see the look of pleasure on people's faces when they purchase one. It means a lot to me that people appreciate them and that they have a good home. Colin

Seems like I spend a lot of time carving, but I don't produce very many pieces. Most of mine are in the bin or on a shelf in my studio. I'm prepared to give them away or sell them, but so far nobody has asked for one. However, my love for carving is undaunted. :-[

I store my 'not so good carvings' in a box in the basement. I really like to save my better carvings for anybody that has a kind word to say about them.. especially older folks and kids! Money can't match a old lady reminding me every time i see her that ' I still got that little wood carving you gave me years ago' ... what the heck, if i sold one i'd just spend it !! ![]() GaFred

My family and friends have quite a few, and I keep a few that I'm just not ready to part with. The others are sold. I have to agree with Colin, though - the money is nice, but the appreciation people show when they get one is more than worth the price of the ticket. I've been running several months behind on custom orders all year long - and I keep waiting for a customer to get mad for having to wait so long to get theirs. But so far, I've been pleasantly surprised each time I get one done to find the recipient still excited even though they had to wait so long. I'm so lucky to get to do this. Teri |

I have a box of carvings I never finished. I have a box of them I never painted. I have a box of them I use for scrap, and the rest I either put somewhere in the house or have given them away. I thought my daughters were tired of getting carvings, but the other night one of my daughters asked if this years santa's were ready yet, so go figure.

My darling little Bride always keeps the first one. Relatives and friends get a lot. Depressing tho, My relatives have them on shelves above the stool. Maybe they are trying to tell me someting. You think I am kidding?? I am not! Several of my boots, owls, fish were given to my Brother-in-law and when I visit him, There they are, on a shelf above the stool. My sister in law in OK, above the stool. Maybe no more for them. : :-/Mostly the little bride and relatives get mine.
